Co-washing Your Hair!

What exactly is cowashing your hair? It is simply washing the hair with conditioner only! The point of cowashing is to give your hair a midweek picker upper in between washes. Conditioning your is one of the single most important things you should do when trying to maintain healthy looking and feeling hair.

I picked up on cowashing at the beginning of this year from various hair boards and YouTube videos, so I implemented it into my hair routine. I used this technique for a few months before I decided that it was not a good match for me! Everyone's hair is different but I just noticed that when I washed, deep conditioned AND cowashed all in one week that my hairs' natural oils were unable to thrive. I now wash and condition my hair once a week or every other week to allow my hair to thrive on its own.

(If cowashing is something that intrigues you, you should definitely use a drugstore brand of conditioner as you will be using it A LOT! The brand that I was using was the VO5 Moisture Milks. These are very wallet friendly as I got most of mine for less than a $1 at CVS Pharmacy wit my CVS extra care card!)

Step by Step to Great Hair!

Lately I have been getting a lot of great compliments on my hair! A few friends of mine have been asking what do I do and use on my hair to make it look so nice! Well here is my regimen! I used to get so lazy with it, but now I'm it and the results are well worth it! See previous post for the products I use.

Once a month:
  • Apply a no-lye relaxer

Once a week:
  • Use an overnight hair mask
  • Wash hair mask out using a mixture of three different Alterna shampoo's
  • Deep condition with three different Alterna conditioners for 1 to 2 hours
  • After rinsing conditioner, apply leave in conditioner and serum to towel dried hair
  • Air dry hair (blow drying some of the middle, it can be annoying waiting for that section to dry!)
  • Spray on finishing spray
  • Flat iron in very small sections
  • Wrap hair (I want to start roller setting it, I love curls!)
Annnnnd that is how my hair stays beautiful!

Must Have Hair Products!

I'm sure you know this, but I have an obsession with my hair and the products that I use on it! Over the course of my teenage years, I damaged my hair enough to last me a lifetime! I was dyeing it, rinsing it, putting all kinds of horrible and harmful products in it. I've always had lengthy hair, but once I started going crazy with all the gunk I put in it, it started to break off really bad. Once that happened, I vowed to myself that I would always take the best care of my hair and get it as healthy as possible! I did just that. Within a few years my hair is healthier than ever! Within this past year I started using Alterna and Carol's Daughter products and they completely transformed my hair!
